I'm currently 14 and I'll be a freshman next year. Right now I'm at 4:48/10:28 for 1600/3200, and I was wondering how much I'd need to improve each year, and what marks I need to hit each year of HS to run at a major d1 school with a good distance program.
Don't listen to letsrun goons. I ran 4:52/2:07 at your age. Aim to run under 4:40 next year and probably sub-10. Sophomore year go for 4:25 and 9:30. That will put you on track to do very well.
It depends on the training it took to get you there as well. Running 4:30 on 30mi a week is not the same as running 4:30 on 70 miles a week. Same could be said about intensity of training as well....no intervals, once a week, twice a week, three times a week.....
My 1600 progression was: 4:37, 4:28, 4:30, 4:27
My 3200 progression was: NA, 10:29, 9:38, 9:32.
