I am a rising senior. I joined the cross country team my sophomore year and had never run previously. Here are my PRs, which I achieved on an average of 20 miles per week:
800m (ran 5/1/18): 2:26
1600m (ran 5/1/18): 5:27
3200m (ran 4/30/18): 12:18
xc 5000m (ran 10/7/17): 21:43
road 5000m (ran 3/29/18): 20:36
I feel I can safely blame my pathetic cross country time on the pleuritis I developed in my left lung at the start of our season. I did not fully recover from it until after our last race. I ran the road 5K in a thunderstorm, so it most certainly is not demonstrative of my current fitness.
Now, with my senior year starting in August, I want to get serious. Since my last meet on May 1st, I have been slowly but surely increasing my weekly mileage to 40, a number I feel I can confidently hold throughout the summer. I want to retain the quality of my previous training and have included interval workouts and tempo runs in my plans. I have some natural speed (12.7 second 100m and 25.6 second 200m) and wish to translate it over longer distances like 400m and 800m.
My goals for the 2018-2019 school year are as follows:
800m: 2:09 or faster
1600m: 4:59 or faster
3200m: 10:59 or faster
xc 5000m: 17:59 or faster
I realize these are rather lofty given my current PRs, but I am willing to work hard and be consistent. I sense I have the potential to improve immensely as a runner. I will post my training log weekly to keep myself motivated and document my journey.
