If you were here I’d beat with the pair of mizuno that left me injured. Worse shoes ever. EVER
bump, any 12mm drop shoe is guaranteed to get you injured instantly
Mizuno Wave Sonic - 4mm drop
Mizuno Wave Shadow - 8mm
Mizuno Wave Sky - 10mm
Mizuno Wave Rider - 12mm
The midsole is not a wedge of wood, it compresses when loading weight. The Wave Rider, once running, feels lower drop than the Boston, for instance, just much softer under the heel, with a very stable and smooth transition. Feels lower than the Pegasus, too.
I avoided the Rider for years because of the 12mm drop, and after reading glowing review after glowing review I bought a pair -- best daily trainer in its weight class. For a lighter, speedy trainer, the Boston rules although I've heard great things about the Wave Shadow, and it will probably fit my foot even better than the Adidas; the Saucony Freedom ISO is another great option that I enjoy very much. And most people won't take Under Armour seriously, but the Charged Bandit 3 is an amazing, versatile trainer, very comfortable and feels awesome at speed, and you can find them for peanuts right now.
All the shoes I've mentioned share another trait: they are super durable and dependable.
The best overall build quality I've experienced goes to Mizuno (but some of their shoes are clunky). Saucony can make terrific shoes but also very flawed ones. Adidas, pretty good build quality, but some shoes are poorly designed and fit, badly. New Balance is constantly changing their shoes top to bottom, which is annoying. Skechers isn't quite there in build quality yet. Hokas plain suck, even if the Bondi is very durable (which shoe of similar weight isn't?). Nike not the best but consistently good. Under Armour has some surprisingly good shoes, but no decent performance model. Altras are sloppy and have a terrible ride.
