Who’s got a guess? Should I find a downhill to improve my chances?

What's the appeal? Do you realize how much today sucked? Most fans only show up if weather is good.

It’s like anal sex. I only want it because my girlfriend said I couldn’t do it.
Yeah it's good to have done once but that's it.
I ran it today. PR'ed. will never ever run it again. Even without the weather the course is brutal.
On the telecast, there's no one watching on the sides. Ear plugs at Wessely? Nope, it was tame and average. Boylston half empty. 25mph headwind the whole way. Never again. I prefer gambling with my money versus gambling with my fitness, which is more valuable. Next year will be another scorcher.
My guess is it will be slower than this year's cutoff. Maybe 2 something. Boston has the most qualifiers for Boston, and I doubt as many people qualified today than usual.
Providence, flat course, starts nice and early in the day like 7 am, decent scenery. I got my qualifying time there’s by 15 minutes (I’m a female)
Remember that in 2013 there was no cut off time - this was after the 89 degree 2012 Boston marathon where everyone melted in the sun.
There may still be a cut-off time in 2019 but it will be small, perhaps under 1 minute.

Taking away the weather conditions I’ve run at least five Marathons in the area that had more difficult courses. I never understood why people felt that Boston was so hard. I think even New York is more difficult.
The course is great. Snow would've been easier than that rain, less wet. The problem yesterday was sustained 25 mph direct headwinds. Gusts to 40nph.

Why would you think the cut off would be so low.?
I was wrong- looks like yesterday had over 1000 more bqs than 2017 BM
the course is faster than NYC.
the weather was exceptionally bad this year, that's just bad luck. the fact that it's point to point doesn't make it harder, it just means wind is a stronger factor, but it goes both ways.
I don't think the cutoff is going to be much weaker. the cut-off was trending upwards previous years (meaning a larger cutoff, more competitive), so I'd expect 3-4 min.
Most of that can be explained because the overall field was faster due to an almost minute faster cutoff time for 2018 than for 2017. I used the same seeding time for both years and was seeded 301 spots lower (higher bib #) in 2018. Similarly, almost 450 more people broke 3 hours in 2018 than 2017. But if you look at the age group leaders, times are somewhat slower this year. Did the weather slow people down? Almost assuredly yes; but they weren't the same people as 2017.
2018 Boston : 2000th place : 3:01:16
2017 Boston : 2000th place : 3:04:50
2016 Boston : 2000th place : 3:04:12
conclusion : the 2018 marathon with the strong headwinds, and a cold, heavy rain yielded faster finishing times than either 2016 or 2017 with the
relatively high temperatures and unrelenting sun.
There was a pretty strong tailwind in 2017 also.
Has anyone broken down finishing time by age/gender for 2018 vs previous years?
yes.
Cut-off time for 2018 race was 3:23.
If that cut-off nears five minutes, I can see BAA adjusting qualifying times. Some of the standards are separated by only five minutes. Might not go over well if 35-39 year-olds are running under the 18-34 standard and not getting into the race.
less than a month out......
I know it's not Runner's World but let's have a little fun with it
