I only stayed with her for about 21 days total. Family is important.

Are you entitled to any benefits?
What's your monthly rent? Do you have a car with insurance? A gym membership? Do you have a phone? Any bills to pay? Are you broke, or do you have money saved? What's your rent and living condition? Do you travel outside your town or city? Can you afford any entertainment expenses?
Right out of college I had a job in a puny town, made 15-16K annual maybe.
Rental of a place was $200/month. (That was then, but I can still find places that cheap.)
I ate cheaper foods, rarely ate "out," and if it was, it was carry-out pizza specials I could use for lunch the next day, too.
I drank little beer, which was not a bad thing.
No investments, obviously, since I had to put gas in my paid-for old car. This isn't hard.
Or heck, just move to Iowa. Ya'll are ridiculous.

On average rent is 400.00 per month. I do not own a car. I've done the math and using driver apps like Uber is less expensive than owning a car, paying for upkeep, insurance and gas. I do use a gym. Cell phone bill is roughly 25$ per month. No other bills. I always have about 3,000.00 at all times. Rent is mostly through friends with spare rooms. I rarely travel far from the vicinity I live in. Gym doubles as entertainment, as does smart phone. Live entertainment is about 5$ per event.

Sweet
Is the $17K before or after taxes? Do you have health insurance?
During your time living in poverty, was your television 72" or 78"?
Also, when you became poor, did you suddenly feel an irrepressible urge to start having a ridiculous number of children?
Would you have traded your lifestyle for a spouse, kids, and more traditional desk job?

That is before taxes. No health insurance. It was too expensive in my area.

No.
