Is that some sort of record for the NCAA?

any clue as to what happened? I would hate for it to be injury as I enjoyed watching him race
He went out in 42.17 for the first 400 (remember, that's with a running start). If he had let up at that point, he might have still kept it under 4:10. Instead he dropped a 22.03 for the next lap. It was gutsy, but not very bright.
He'll be back.
Wow that's slow.
But if it really was a 5:21, then a 4:00 split would've only given 'Cuse a 10:04 and 18 seconds off of the 8th place finishers. This could've just been strategy to not waste energy before the 5000 tomorrow. But 5:21 is quite ridiculous.

I am familiar with P. Germano and his great come from behind All-American XC performance years ago. I have nothing against him but I will say for a fact: Philo Germano DID NOT SPLIT 42.17 for his first 400m. It did not happen.

I heard someone caught him actually smoking meth in the bathroom right before he ran this.
If it was his intention to run this slow and it wasn't due to injury or anything, why even enter the relay? My guess is he got hurt, which sucks.
SU's leadoff man ran 3:18--I don't know why. At that point the race is over. As someone pointed out, even a 4:00 anchor wouldn't have scored.
So you just have your anchor runner stride it in.
No "honest effort" kinds of rules for relays I guess.
Guessing you can’t dnf and run another event after so they had to post a reasonable finish.

I'm pretty sure there is, but if you run a decent first 800 (say 2:0x) and are getting lapped and have no hope of scoring, then you've made your "honest effort to win or score" and you should be able to jog it in from there.
I'd love to know how his leg went. (Maybe 2:05/3:15?) Do we have any eyewitness reports?
He ran a PB of 13:51 at 5000m today at ACC, so he is not injured.
Have you finished eating your words yet? He just went 1-2 with Knight at ACCs.
...and he has the fastest last 200m
