Long story short I have developed a stress reaction in my shin. Generally I run about 40 miles per week averaging 7:00 pace w/ long run and two quality workouts each week.
I use a road bike in a fluid resistance trainer. Riding at ~16-17 mph I usually maintain 140 bpm for an hour when I use the bike for recovery or cross training purposes.
How much saddle time do I need to put in and at what intensity to maintain my current fitness for a couple of weeks while my leg heals?
I figure I can simulate some workouts (fartlek or tempo type intervals) to break up the monotony of it all.
My biggest concern is that I don't really have time to log two or three hours every day to get out of the bike what I get on a run.
How would you guys approach this? What has worked for you guys in this situation?
