I wouldn't go as far as to say they're two different species. Yes women are trickier psychologically to coach if you're a man. But Andrea is very equipped socially. Look at her interviews. Look at how she recruits. I doubt the UNC men are going to have trouble following her lead after being lead into hell by Vanlastyne
I don’t think Andrea will have a problem. She will scare those boys into shape. I do think women are a different species. Andrea is like a dude. She will be fine.

UNC will announce Andrea Grove-McDonough as the new head of men's/women's cross country. Talked to many people who were able to confirm it. Cat is out of the bag, official announcement pending on internal red tape. Ask anyone at Iowa State and they will confirm that
Nope. The new coach will be a man. The announcement will be made on Monday.
If you have a female coaching males you absolutely lose a number of male recruits right from the start.
Most males cannot picture being coached by a female. All things equal the male recruit will chose the school with a male coach.

Who replaces AGM at Iowa State? One of the top women's programs in the Midwest for a while now.
There are countless male coaches who have a young woman underneath them that assists in coaching both cross country teams.
She will have a male coach underneath her now who will presumably gravitate to the men’s program, but Andrea controlling things.
Simple.

The men will suffer in this sort of arrangement only because of 18 vs. 12 schollies, Andre has never technically coached males, and they probably paid more than they anticipated for her and trimmed the secondary salary (look for a former Tarheel runner, young, with zero coaching experience).

She had a volunteer assistant who will most likely come with her for the other paid position. She hasn’t gotten a position anywhere else so I’m assuming she would follow andrea and get a pay check. I douby she would stay in Ames as a volunteer for a new coach

Would be extremely unique because I can't think of a program that has a head woman and asst woman to cover men and women's cross country! #metoo
Wrong. Roberts is staying. He is still sending out recruiting emails. They need a man on staff to close the male recruits. Two woman would be death for both sides.

So what happens to the Volunteer? She goes to UNC to Va or stays in Ames?
Anticipate Roberts staying on. He’s a fantastic Men’s recruiter. Under a stronger head I bet he could even better. Andrea’s guidance would teach him a lot.
Coach Henes at Nc State is shaking. Andrea will actually give her a run for a money when recruiting in state females. UNC, the sleeping giant!
As a former coach(male) who had female assnt's I think a Head female and assnt females could do very well at UNC. As long as they are good coaches it doesn't matter the gender. That school is EASY to recruit to and the gender of the coaches isn't going to sway top national prospects or their parents. If she gets current guys and gals to improve, that's all they need for validation. Personally, I even found that my female assnt sometimes connected better with the guys and was able to maximize their focus and potential a little better than I could, so I would give her more coaching/ training responsibility. No one at UNC should be worried as it'll be the other ACC programs that are in for some trouble. It'll be fun to see the ups and downs across the map after all the big jobs that have opened/ closed. Good luck to all!
Who did wake forest hire?
If you truly hold the belief that male athletes are difficult to recruit if you're a female, look at the class Angela Reckart is bringing in at Penn State this season. 4 sub 1:51 guys from in and out of state. She is the major force recruiting Penn State, especially since Gondak is socially awkward and unlikable. Although he brings the coaching expertise for the 800, a lot of athletes are going there because of the relationship Angela formed with them.
I know Andrea and if you don't think she can recruit then you don't know a single thing about her. She recruited prospects to Iowa State over schools like Colorado Oregon Stanford. Not the easiest sell. But she's a coach who has proven she can develop athletes and win championships, which is paramount.
The package of Coach Andrea and UNC is going to be difficult to brush aside. This is more her program than it was at Iowa State and you can bet that she's going to go to extra mile that it is going to take to salvage the UNC program.
Tell me what girls are going to choose UVA over UNC at this point. Duke over UNC. Henes is her greatest threat in the ACC, but a lot of girls would chose a UNC degree over a NC State degree if it came down to it. Excited to see how this will play out.
Station did you not read my post? I said I think she's going to do great and gender won't make a difference on recruiting... smh
Not directed at you, just replied to last post on topic. #sameteam
