      • Notre Dame situation is dubious.

        1) The admin told folks in Eugene they want head coach to be a director with no coaching. Good luck with that model. Further, Sparks did a good job with women, but has never directed anything or anyone before.

        2) Salaries are low so nobody good will come (or stay). If Sparks really isn’t coaching, that means multiple people are making $45,000 to be main XC coaches and live in south bend?

        3) Carlson is mediocre at best. Turner and Sparks both dogged him out to other coaches on multiple occasions. Guys will be non factor.

        4) I’ve heard Turner was unpopular with alumni and that contributed largely to his demise. Sparks was his #2. He better figure that situation out better than his mentor.

        5) I would not be surprised if Turner filed a suit against them.

      • Edrick has put together a great staff and they will kick major butt in short amount of time! He doesn’t give much of a hoot about distance fellas. Ya an occasional scorer here and there - but come on. Of course he will hire someone he knows from past if possible. It’s callled trust. It’s all in the sprints- field events to win championships! Go Longhorns!

        Floreal is missing the boat. In Texas, UT gets the top Texas HS recruits for pennies. He could have his pick which means scorers.

        Sprints are occupied in Texas. He has to recruit against Carl Lewis at Houston (and an easier school to get into). For 400m runners he has to recruit against Pat Henry and way better facilities.

        If he wants to win at UT his path was distance runners for very little $ and field with a few hurdlers thrown in who can sprint.

        If he goes all in on sprints it’s going to backfire. Texas should be too 3 at NCAA’s every year.

      • Washington has had a pretty decent throws program for decades. Not as good since Shannon retired, but better than most.

      • Ha Ha. Udubs now has three head coaches and four distance coaches. Also, for those of y'all that don't think high school coaches can recruit, when was the last time you tried selling the fun of seven a.m. runs all summer long, to a 14-18 year old? Give her a shot.

      • The true disappointment at Texas is they are not going to pay her an entry level salary. She is not deserving of such a salary 100,000. A lot of great female coaches were never called. Again this shows exactly who Edrick is and he needed a yes a yes in a big way. I feel for the distance kids at Texas as edrick himself stated needed someone who understands how to train in heat. Patti is not that, and backed with such little experience people have a right to question a stupid call. But Edrick needed a yes. As for Notre Dame, pay sucks andheard they are going female, maybe Patti cashes in and takes NDU. Unc will not hire VIg, Vig is like the Pat mecgregor . SIU would be a great place for Vig if he wants to leave Princeton. For a power 5 to take him is going to be desperate.

        Where’s Metcalf gonna end up? I could see him at Texas or UNC, especially if he’s only in charge of the guys.
