Why not just give me all of your money instead? I promise not to spend it on health care.

Too bad. You will pay for it regardless. You can pay for it in the form of higher overall healthcare costs, as people delay preventative treatments due to cost concerns, thereby escalating costs which are written off and then paid by the general public. OR you can invest in healthcare infrastructure which allows people to get say insulin and diabetes treatments, which keeps them out of the hospital and ER, and allows them to work and consume more and for longer, which is better for the economy i.e. you.

The far cheaper option is preventative care, esp for the poor.
Spoken like a true Conservative. I'm being sarcastic. I'm sure not every Conservative is as bitter and hateful as you seem to be.
Are you one of those people who struggle through life with a chip on their shoulder?
Folks constantly say these things without thinking about the reality of not helping those that cannot or will not help themselves.

I hope you get cancer.
I'd bet good money that the OP is one financial hardship away from being Medicaid eligible.
Taxpayers have to fund the policing of your drug crimes. I find paying for people's healthcare to be a whole lot more palatable than that.

What like euthanasia?
There are people who are either physically or mentally unable to care for themselves. Not everyone on assistance is looking for a free ride. Not everything is either black or white.

The far cheaper option in for people to be responsible about their own health and not make society pay for the consequences of their unhealthy lifestyle choices.
You can go to almost any other country, or else just remain healthy and stay here.

THIS
All hospitals in the US that are accepting Medicare must also accept patients without insurance. And they don't have to pay anything if they can't. Guess who is footing the bill? YOU AND I
I think there is only one solution to this:
1. Basic healthcare for every single citizen, tax funded. Think along the lines of medicaid. Not good service, but basic.
2. Medicare for 65+ with better service
3. Employer sponsored "better" health insurance as an umbrella policy over your basic coverage. E.g. pays for new cancer drugs etc.
4. Private market "better/best" health insurance as an umbrella policy for self employed and medicare
That way, you still get better care if you opt to pay for it (or have paid for it) but you can't be forced to do it. But no one will die in the streets because they can't afford the hospital bill for a heart attack.

Listen, pal, you can walk that "nuance" crap right outta here. This is LRC, and we expect people to opt for Box A or Box B and stay there.
If you pay taxes then you are already paying for other people's healthcare-Medicare, Medicaid, Indian healthcare, Obamacare subsidies, direct government subsidies of medical care like residencies, government and military employees and their families, government retirees, etc.
So please go burn all your money now. It's time. Thx.

I'm guessing this would be a very small "bonfire."
