I feel sad for the parents of the soldiers who sent their sons to help America win the War on Terrorism and they ran into a domestic Terrorist in the army

I certainly do not like what happened at basic training to victims.

USMC from basic training and including school of infantry have about 21 weeks to change high school seniors into USMC rifleman. USMC is rather flexible regarding rifleman status. Every Marine must be able to assume rifleman status. Make no mistake about it, USMC trains men who are willing to maintain tactical formations and charge machine gun positions. Marines will fight sans air support.

Mothers, do not send your sons into USMC for the cool uniforms! Making sausage is ugly. Every time stuff like this occurs, I wonder has anyone heard, USMC: We're looking for a few good men. Has anyone seen the first half of movie, Full Metal Jacket?

The marines aren't for everyone. Truth be told, treatment like this is often times necessary to turn individuals with little direction in there lives into adults. The military is very good at turning lost souls into contributors to society later on in life. It is harsh, but ultimately effective. If you can't take harassment, you aren't going to make much of a soldier. My best college coach was a hard ass for the first couple of months, but turned us into a top 25 D1 program in a short period of time. A number of guys fell to the wayside, those that toughed it out achieved a greater level of success than if things would have stayed the same. Don't be too critical of a system that has worked for generations. There will be bad apples, and they will be dealt with, but don't disparage the Marines.

You compared a college coach being tough to literal torture. WTF is wrong with you.

Some of you are mixing up what the Marines expect to be done in basic training and what this guy did. He was found guilty because he did not do what he was supposed to do with recruits.

They dont even let girls train with the boys in the Marines. On my XC team we have girls who are faster than boys. Gaw!

For the past 300 years The Marines train the FBI, NYPD SWAT, Navy Pilots, SEALS, CIA, Green Berets, 101st Airborne, Air Force commandos, Secret Service, etc. As punishment the Marines for 10 years should be trained by fatties in college ROTC clubs ;-) That'll teach the Marines a lesson ;-)

Using your best English, explain why you cannot understand. USMC, since 1775 has had a certain way to change young lads into USMC riflemen. The process is not pretty. Respond in your best English and explain why you cannot comprehend the mission of USMC? Explain to me the kinder and more gentle way the USMC should change boys into riflemen.

In 1970 I was in CC Platoon. They drowned me 10 different times in the pit of sand, dirt, and water. I blacked out 6 times. The Corpsman slapped my face and gave me smelling salts then the DI put me back in the pit. They twisted me made me punch back the DI and threw Judos throws dozens of times until I broke 2 ribs. Then the Di broke my leg. I went to the Naval Hospital for 3 months. Then the Lt put me back in the Series 2nd Phase and said he would slit my throat in front of everyone if I made one mistake. I finally grew up barely qualed at Edson, barely passed PT test, and graduated two months later. I love the US Marines. I'm so proud I am a United States Marine I tell everyone, every day of the year.

The Feds should have one universal basic training for all of it's conventional branches and Marine Corps. The goal should be to merge in the Marine Corps with everyone else. In 2017 there's no need for the Teutonic Knights anymore.

It was first brought up in a US Congressional hearing, circa 1947. Then, the discussion was disbanding of USMC. USMC was formed as the navy's army. The original mission of USMC was to combat pirates on the seas and root out pirates while in their coastal encampments. Navy frogmen turned into SEALS in the '60s. SEALS basically do the USMC's original mission. All US Special Forces are very good. No one is willing to fight in the manner of USMC. No other branch is willing to accept the high death USMC has historically suffered. Watch the death rate during any conflict. Merging USMC into the Army would not go over well. Congress could try again.

You do know SWAT are young fit city police officers. SWAT are not military. If you feel Marines are too redundant, tell your US Congressman.
