Very nice, but WTF Steve Scott? who was a freshman at UCI with PRs of 1:52/4:15 from high school. He was two years from elite.
It is clear that the guy on the lower left is indeed Kyle "Zelig" Merber. Andy Kaufman doing a full "role immersion" of an elite runner is in center.
Several young men pictured, including the two unidentified, were college students at the time. This photo was taken at the infamous study of high performance runners in Dallas during 1975 at the Cooper Institute. My memory recalls it was Frank Shorter that had the lowest measured VO2 of the group, yet he has the only Olympic medal. Kenny Moore's book Best Efforts provides personal insight of the happenings that week.
Wasn't Doug Brown in that study? I recall him as being proud as the "fattest elite". Still weird that they almost randomly picked up the future AR-holder for the mile.
I recall that Shorter basically didn't try all that hard on the VO2max test, whereas Pre tried to kill it. I need to get Kenny's book and reread, maybe the best running literature ever (Kardong's was great too).
Ken Cooper's "Aerobics" was the first book I ever read on exercise. It helped ignite the running/fitness boom.

John Tuttle was a sophomore or junior in HS in NY at the time of the study. It is not he.

Who's the dude with the headband?
Awww, the 70s, weren't they fun?
Phidippides T-shirt. Only the 70s, or runners, or 70s runners would think that's a good name for a store.

I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
