While driving home after running a marathon yesterday my friend made a challenge of whether or not I could break 5 minutes in a mile the next day. That started a discussion of what the world record might be for the fastest mile run the day after a marathon.
Obviously someone like Kipchoge who runs a marathon in 4:40 pace could go exceptionally fast. And a runner with high caliber mile speed might be able to run an easy 26.2 miles one day and come back the next and come close to his mile PR but this challenge is for a true marathon race attempt for the given person.
Is there any stats out there for this? Anyone tried to run a hard milenthe day after?
I did end up running hard mile the day after and went 4:43. I will say however it was slightly downhill so it's not legit.
I'm equally curious about the fastest mile the day after a 100 Miler. I know Mike Wardian did a mile in 5:12 the day after Western States one year, so that may be he fastest.
PS: I rarely post to LetsRun and when I do I use my real name. Let'sRun is redicilous but I'm curious about this question and feel someone will have some stats on this. No claims to this challenge without real names and evidence.
