against an armed citizenry -> doesn't happen
against an unarmed citizenry -> holocaust, mass murder, camps, oppression
History is littered with better-armed groups murdering and oppressing less-armed groups. Bottom line: it happens and that's why the Founders enshrined a countermeasure in our Constitution.
And regarding your comment about pleasure of seeing the other side in pain, the only significant group of people that maintain vitriol for another sizable group in our society is the leftist/Hollywood/media/liberal East & West coasters and their attitude towards red/flyover state Republicans.
Hillary summarized this perspective when she called us unredeemable and deplorable. As a society, we need to take a closer look at where the hatred resides in our country. It's not the usual suspects.
You have disproved your own point with your own example. The US went against an armed citizenry in Afghanistan, it happened, and is still going on. We both know what happened there.
And awful condtions still have occurred against an armed citizenry. Syria, for example. Mass murder, torture prisons, mass migration, etc. Superior fire power has overwhelmed Syrian rebels. Superior firepower in Iraq has overwhelmed ISIS, at the cost of many lives, destroyed cities, and broken societies. Were the armed rebellions and armed responses worth it, except to those with fetishes of violence, illusions of power?
Is that what you want for your perceived freedom, rather than the freedom to attempt to solve problems with open discussion? Do you understand the awful reality of warfare, beyond the rebellion fantasies in your mind that give you orgasms?
I read conservative news everyday. The genius of conservative news is that it creates a leftist boogeyman in every situation, and you should fear this leftist boogeyman, and leftists are not people and we should not see them as people, but rather a monolithic group that all thinks and acts the same. The conservative news feeds their readers that same message over and over again, it's constantly reinforced, and it's completely dehumanizing. The conservative news media, and media in general, is not concerned with solving actual problems. They simply want to hook in a loyal readership that will keep coming back to the well to reinforce their viewpoint and bias.
If you think the hate only flows from one place, you are living in a bubble surrounded by propaganda that you don't understand. Hate is pervasive and it can spread to anywhere. I see it all around, from so many sources, and sometimes t explodes in violence. The least you can do is stem it within yourself.
Hillary apologized for that comment, by the way, I'm sorry it has taken you so long to get over it.
