Is that Star Trek Discovery any good? 🤔 (I missed the pilot and it's not avaible on demand yet). I hope it's not a cheesy version of what life is like on Starship pre-Capt. Kirk era (i.e., Star Trek Enterprise).
Nope. I have enough streaming services. If the reviews are good, I'll watch it in just one month, after it's all released.

It was decent. But, in my mind not good enough to pay $10 a month for given the other lack of content on the streaming service. So, even though a life-long Trek fan . . . I'll seek watching it some other way.
I torrented it - the pilot wasn't that bad - certainly good effects, the first officer (the lady from Walking Dead) is the main character, so the dynamics are different. Michelle Yeoh is always a joy to watch.
I'm not wanting to pay $10 a month just for this show and if it were on regular TV it would be awesome.
I have read in two places that it's going to be on Netflix. I'm hoping for that to work.

I heard it was only going to be on Netflix for non-US viewers.

The effects were great. I thought the time and setting would be boring (it is a prequel not a sequel to the other Star Trek series), but the situation they are in is energetic.
The only thing you may not like is the redesign of the Klingons. They are skinnier, have stiff joints, have different head shape, and have navy blue skin.
The tone (?) of the show looks like a movie not a regular Star Trek series.

What's up with that? The appearance of the Klingons has changed more than anything else from the original series up through the prequels. And the Starship looks kinda of junkie, similar to the crappy looking one on "Star Trek: Enterprise."👎
I think the best series aside from the original is "Star Trek Voyager." Now that's a cool looking Starship and bridge design. And Torres is sexy in a tough kind of a way & Seven of Nine is one hot Borg/Human hybrid! ðŸ‘

Could be. Well, as much as I like Star Trek if they're going to make it complicated to watch I probably won't, at least for now.
The show is decent enough. I like the new assh0le Captain and the fact that the ship is essentially doing seriously questionable activities.
As I get older, the less I want to see of the "bad guy of the week" stuff. DS9 went dark during the Dominion War and I liked that because it was finally adult sci-fi.
The Orville does a good job at being Star Trek with happy optimism.

So...how many years does this take place before Kirk's Enterprise voyages? Is Kirk in the Star Fleet Academy during this time period? I take it that Discovery takes place after Capt
Archer's inaugural voyages into deep space aboard Enterprise? 🤔
It's weird because there's a mix of old and new technology. It's technically a prequel, but it doesn't feel like it. It's definitely not cheesy, which I kind of miss, actually. Her roommate is dangerously close to Jar Jar levels of annoying, but thankfully doesn't get too much screen time.
The main thing that weirds me out is that it doesn't seem much like an enlightened society and doesn't do much to inspire one about the human condition. There are also sometimes plot points that only become an issue because people are being dumb. Overall, it's entertaining, and good scifi, but I try not to think about it in relation to the established Trek universe.

Aren't those ships SUPPOSED to look junky? Those 2 shows are PREQUELS which means the technology is supposed to be more primitive.

It looked like old technology to me. They had never even heard of cloaking technology. What new technology are you talking about?

Oh c'mon now, the technology may be a little more primitive, but do you really a think 200 or so yrs from now a star ship than can exceed light speed will look like that? 🤔 (just like that hunk of junk that Archer had to command ðŸ˜)

I thought the Romulans were the only one's with cloaking technology until Kirk saved the day? 🤔 Remember the Star Trek episode where Kirk was altered to look like a Romulan and snuck aboard the Romulan ship to steal the cloaking technology while Spock distracted that very hot & gorgeous Romulan commander?
