I'm an Apple fan but honestly the new phones don't interest me & $1,000 for a smart phone is insane. Smart phones have peaked & the changes we see with new phones are pretty small. Apple even came out & said this themselves before the 7 was released to prep consumers to not get too excited. Apple said something like to only expect major changes every 3 years rather than every year.
Personally, I have a 6s plus & I'm very content with it. Looking below at a comparison between the 7, 8 & X on paper & the 7 looks like the best deal by far. When I bought my 6s the 7 was already out. None of the new features of 7 or now the 8 or the x really scream "must have" to me like features did on older iPhone releases. Breaking it down --
dual speakers: I actually use my phone a fair amount at work to listen to music. I've never once wished I had better sound. I'd simply buy a speaker if I did.
No headphone jack: lame. connecting to bluetooth is a pain & takes a long time. Cables never fail & have to be paired again.
wireless charging: I really have no problem with plugging a cable in to charge my phone. I also want to see how good of a job Apple can do. I've heard wireless charging is slow & the charging pads create a lot of heat that's wasted.
Faster: eh, I actually didn't notice much of an improvement going from a 5s to a 6s & that was supposedly a big jump in processor speed & RAM. How fast do we really need our phones? It's wifi speeds that slow me up the most.
Better display: see above. My 5s felt like it had an amazing display. How bright & clear do we need our display?
Edge to edge display: I'm used to the plus size & the bezel so not a big deal.
battery: all phone batteries go to crap after a year or so, so an extra hour doesn't do much for me.
Camera: this seems to be the biggest focus of Apple recently. I don't take a lot of pics. Again, I thought the 5s took great pics. How much better do we need a camera. I doubt the avg person can tell a difference in pics between a 6s, 7, 8, x. Better to learn how to take pictures on an iPhone than spend $1,000 for a new phone. Ever see the movie Tangerine? Shot entirely with an iPhone 5s. Incredible work that I bet most iPhone X users won't be able to take half as good video quality as.
face ID: I'm so used to placing my thumb on the home button when I pull it out of my pocket & then the screen is unlocked & ready by the time I can view it. With face ID I'd have bring it closer to my face & wait. Plus in the keynote today, face ID failed. He also brought the phone real close to his face which looked like a pain.
