Kipchoge might be the most consistent marathon runner in the world, but when Bekele is on, he is a fiend. Predictions for the Berlin Marathon on September 24th ..... will we see a world record?

Is there anything recent about pacers? Does Berlin even have pacers? (I only caught the end last year; can't keep all these marathons straight.)
Assuming all athletes are "there" fitness-wise, I don't see Kipchoge wanting to push WR pace only to get outkicked. I also don't see him taking it too easy either since Kipsang will be in the mix.
But.... Kipchoge did run 2:00... He has got to have his confidence turned up to 11. Maybe he just races his watch hammering along hoping Bekele is

(Oops.)
...
WR are rare events
no WR here
Bekele must be super confident to throw his hat in this ring. I"m predicting a 20 second world record by him. He wouldn't have entered if he wan't in the shape of his life.
I disagree, Bekele has beaten Kipchoge so many times that I think if he is in shape he will always beat Kipchoge, I think Kipchoge will drop both and go sub 2:02
lol...I predict yet another DNF by him.[quote]
Marathon is another beast that is unlike any track events....

... Bekele almost nabbed the WR last time. He looked like track Bekele...
Anyway I agree with Keniano. These two have "avoided" each other for so long-- read: Bekele getting hurt, not being fit, not making WC teams; Kipchoge doing champs, sub-2:00-- that I think Bekele is ready to try the best marathoner on the scene in a fast effort. If at least last year's Bekele shows up the WR is in trouble. If it were just Kipchoge and Kipsang I don't think we'd see the WR go down. Bekele changes everything.
But I think you forgot to add the actual boss of the marathon event; sub-2:04:00, 4x under real conditions ..Wilson Kipsang

Here's a hint:
5 of the 6 fastest marathons EVER were run at Berlin.

Don't write off Kipsang, he says his training is going better than ever and when he did the same thing last year people doubted him. Then he ran 2:03:13 leading from 30K. Even if he doesn't win he will make the race very different than if it was just Kipchoge vs Bekele.
Kipchoge drops everyone by 35-37k. I think he get a 2:01:xx high. Kipsang 2:03:2x and Bekele if he is in the best shape possible a 2:02:xx high, if not, he might outkick Kipsang for 2nd or at worst a DNF.
I think Bekele is competely unpredictable by now. Nobody knows what will happen, not even Bekele himself probably

I think 2:01:5x is possible for Kipchoge but were on Earth are they gong to find pacers who can do that? They went out in 1:01:1x last year and the pacers didn't make it 25K. Also if I were Kipchoge I would hope Kipsang is in great shape and Bekele isn't. Kipsang is much more likely to effectively be a pacer and the only way Kipchoge loses is Bekele sits on him through ~40K and out kicks him (which would be an incredibly entertaining and close duel if Bekele is up for it).
Kennster will win and set a new WR. I'll bump this thread when it has happened.
El Keniano: You are you using Psych Ops regarding 2017 Berlin Marathon. Bekele has to prove his Achilles will hold up for an elite race. Kipchoge will easily prevail. When I state easily, by 50 metres.

Imagine if hitler was still around to see that!

Exactly.
Jimi Hendrix and Ramanujan were also like that. They don't really make things happen by themselves. They are used as instruments to make things happen.
(I also saw a goat at the food store in a bag with his legs sticking out. He had been killed and the humans were now ready to cut him up, sell him, cook him, and then eat him...which triggered some painful memories.
Last year, I thought that Kenenisa would run a 2:03:33 at Berlin.
Then Kenenisa did another Something Special Surprise...again...and ran 30 seconds faster than what I thought was even a possible time that he could run.
Kenenisa Bekele did the impossible...again.
It is not a big surprise. Kenenisa is like Merlin the Magician.
That also made his time 2:03:03...which is still a good, rational and normal Arabic number. It is not an irrational number or a transcendental number or an infinite number...or other types of numbers... which should all be banned.
However, Kenenisa has also had 2 debacles in a row in his most recent 2017 marathons.
1) He was not trained correctly for the possibility of almost being trampled to death at the start of the 2017 Dubai marathon.
2) At the 2017 London marathon Kenenisa was pudgy and out of shape. The result was a #2 place finish in a time of 2:05:57...which was an absolute debacle for Kenenisa.
I hope that Kenenisa has learned his lesson and does not show up looking like Barry Fudge again.
In conclusion:
