Hurdling legend Colin Jackson stuns the world by revealing he is gay. I never suspected for a moment. Not that it matters of course.

Everybody knew this already, didn't they?
That's amazing he only came out to his parents eleven years. And sad. He'd have been almost forty.

Funny how it's....it doesn't matter of course.....ok then why even talk about it? Yes it does matter, and if he and his lover walked hand in hand down the streests of a lot of places on this earth they'd see just how much it does matter.
Must admit I never thought he was Gay. None of my business.
He and Don Lemon have a similar look, not that there's necessarily a correlation.
Good for him
I'll await Karl Hungus to tell us if he's hot or not.
Is this really news in 2017? Hope he has a happy, healthy life.
Is this a thread bumped from 1990?
as if you couldnt tell....like will it be that big of a shock when carl lewis comes out? cause thats obvious as well.
His sexuality is of absolutely no interest to me whatsoever.
What does worry me is his continued presence on the BBC commentary team where he continues to reinvent the English language and talk absolute and utter b******s!!

Maybe. How many gay track athletes have come out? We are talking about simple things like hugging their partner after winning and saying I love you after winning the race? You know all the stuff that straight runners do. This is simply a story cause he kept it hidden for his 10+year career as a pro athlete.

He's ok.
I had no idea who this guy is. But if he's happy, then that's good. But like anyone who's out in sports - the only thing I care about is how well they do their job. If they are horrible at their jobs, then than matters more than who they bone.
Whoa. This is surprising to me. Would have been awesome to know he was a competing gay athlete when I was younger, seeing someone like me competing professionally. (Not that I was anywhere near his level.)

The BBC commentary team are beyond a joke. And to think of the galaxy of riches they had 30 years ago - David Coleman, Ron Pickering etc. When Brendan Foster retires it will be the final nail.
Even Steve Cram after all these years in the job still sounds like he's reading from a script and forcing himself to sound excited towards the end of races.
The other channels aren't much better and tbh I hate the way athletics coverage is done these days with the moving camera and too many front angles not letting you really see the change in positions..
Try watching the Moscow 800 or 1500m final with Coleman's commentary and then the 2017 London BBC versions. Awful.
'Those blue eyes like chips of ice.' Steve Cram would have to ruminate for 20 years before coming up with a line as good as that, and then when he spoke it it would be obviously rehearsed and wooden. Coleman was sprouting this stuff genuinely in the moment. And to think he was mocked for occasionally getting names mixed up or mentioning that Juantorena had 'opened his legs and shown his class'...

And? He had a 10+ year career including a bunch of years towards the end where homosexuality wasn't not a big deal (i.e. compare 1985 to say 2000) and didn't want to come out for whatever reasons.
Given the lack of openly gay t&F athletes(well on the men's side at least), the tough part is figuring out is it because no one cares (i.e. I have no clue who centro is dating) or because they make effort to hide it (i.e. Colin Jackson was a big enough name and had enough written about him that it would take an effort to keep it private).
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
