After our 90 minute run yesterday, one of my teammates and I jogged slowly down to the river to cool down after our hot afternoon run. I sat down on the bank and got in knee high. Once I adjusted to the temperature I went in further so the water was up to my hips. We chatted about workouts and the first race of the season for a few minutes when I decided to lay back and doze off in the hot sun for 5 or 10 minutes. After I woke back up my teammate was gone, I yelled for him but heard nothing. In a panic I looked around and saw his shoes and shirt still next to river bank??!!! I thought he was playing a trick on me or had to go to the bathroom, but after a few more minutes of waiting and calling his name I still didn't hear anything back.
I rushed out of the river crying trying to put my shoes on as fast as possible. It seemed to take forever because my feet were cold and soaked. I started running but couldn't get going with my stiff legs. Moving awkwardly down the short path back to the parking lot I made my way to the car. Unfortunately I couldn't get in to call for help because it was locked and my teammate had the key. Finally someone drove up to the parking lot, I got on their phone and called for help. Now search and rescue has been looking for him for the last day and night. I haven't been able to sleep and am really stressed out. Somehow I think this is my fault. My coach had a scheduled workout today but I'm not sure im even going to be able to show up to practice.
