So, after a 2 year hiatus from the sport of running, I am coming back. I left with high school PR's of 4:22 mile, 9:35 3200 and 15:45 xc 5k. I have been living an active lifestyle, just not running. How can I get back in shape quickly?

Quickly? You probably won't. You're asking for trouble if you get right back into things like you never stopped. Take your time and enjoy the process.

Why would you ever stop running when you have talent like that?

In the short-term, I would suggest adopting a Keto diet, and combine that with Hadd training (low heart rate to keep things in the fat-burning zone).

Morons like you should be banned instantly. 0/10.
I'm also trying to get back in shape after hanging up the spikes two years ago. Left high school with pr's of 4:48, 10:40, and 17:40. Good luck on your journey mate!
how many of you actually hung the spikes up, from a hook or whatever? You probably buried them under a pile of crap and had to dig through it to find them.

I testify this is true.

Great question. Mine hung from a hook in my closet for a time. Took them out and displayed them on a bookshelf upon moving to a new apt.
I hung up my spikes after a 4:27 1600//15:50 5K....in 1982.
Injuries to hip and plantar fascitis and engineering school.
Restarted running again briefly at 42 and then again at 49. Have been running regularly for the last 4 years.
I'm old, fat, and slow. > 21min 5K.
Advice: Don't wait until you're 50 to get back in shape.
Good Luck.

Retired 2 years ago as well. Playing a ton of basketball/other activities.
Pr's were 4:30,9:49
A few months ago I trained for a 5k on short notice I ran 18 miles over 2 weeks very fast doing fartleks and tempos and I was able to run 16:58. So I think you can do it if you like speed work.

You don't.
You probably won't get back in shape slowly, either. Here's why.
https://letscommentate.wordpress.com/2017/05/01/why-your-comeback-will-fail/I'm just coming back into the sport after a 3.5 year lay off. 4:40 mile, 16:15 5k. I have also been living an active lifestyle (plenty of women). Good luck
Started running again after 9 years of doing nothing after college. Was a 1:56 -
4:03 (1500) guy. The biggest help was I never gained any weight. Three weeks in and comfortably running 20 miles a week at low 7 pace. I'm fairly confident that you can be able to train hard within 3-6 months of building mileage after only 2 years off and that being young, listen to your body. I'll run slow for a year and then see if I can handle interval training, strides until then.

I predict you quit way before you ever get to interval work.
I'll let you know in a year.

This article is so true. So THAT is why I am the only one on my team who runs in the offseason (alone). I will never stop running!
