This would only be hard and require some pansy strategy for people who rarely run 20 miles at a time. That is why they think 24 miles is a challenge, in 24 hours.
Like the guy above me said, it is fundamental: Go run a solid 24 mile run (2.5-3 hours) and start it early. Take a good shower or bath after and drink some protein shake and lots of water afterwards, then take a nap if you are really tired.
Start drinking around 6 PM and pace yourself at first. 4 beers an hour and after each hour drink some water. Your metabolism will be revved from the 24 miles and you should be able to cruise through 12-15 beers pretty easily, after that it will get hard.
