The VCP record is particularly impressive because it stood the test of time.
RIP Mr Bevier.
Link? Cause of death?
ran against him indoors a few times and then at Mt. Sac years later... always seemed like a great guy
Got a call from a fellow form Westchester Track Club alumni about this yesterday around lunch time. I understand that he died with his trainers on - collapsed during a run; presumably a heart issue.
He used to say, if you don't go into oxygen debt on a run, then what's the point of the run. He ran hard every run.
Great guy
"You're not cocky if you know you can do it"
Words I lived by
This is devastating. I met Charlie when I was a grad student and coach at SU. One of the most gentlemanly, and least bigheaded, people I've ever met. A guy with a ton of natural class.
I am so, so sorry to hear this. My deepest sympathies to his survivors.

He died while doing something he enjoyed.
Charlie, #838, sharing the lead with Pat Porter (another who was gone far too soon): http://media.gettyimages.com/photos/pat-porter-and-charlie-bevier-lead-the-pack-during-a-race-of-the-1987-picture-id149535377?s=612x612
Can't find anything on the internet on this. Hope it isn't true. A New York running icon.
Had some great battles with Charlie when he was at Syracuse and I was at Cornell and for many years afterwards. A great competitor and true gentleman.

Those were the best Nike singlets and shorts .
If this is Pete Pfitzinger responding , then unfortunately CB 's passing must be true .
RIP
Yes it is true, Coach Fox tweeted about it.
Recall his coming over the river with his HS team to compete in a tri meet on our track. He would have been 15 years old at the time.
Here is a more thorough obituary:

When I was at SU in the mid-80s the staff were still raving about him, even though he graduated several years before. They said he never missed his morning run. What a great person!
Amazing man off the track, just as on!!! Such a beautiful soul that was there for my family anytime we needed him.... God bless Charley
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
