Hi guys long story short, I'm not a runner, but due to a terrible year of leg injuries stemming from patellofemoral syndrome, plantar fascitis, ankle sprains (without trauma), I now have the most disabling injury of them all, a calf strain.
A month back while doing some ankle rehab exercise with a band that was likely too high, I felt a sharp pain up my right calf on the outside part. Since that day a month ago with lots of rest and avoiding activity, I have not made improvements, in fact things might be worse. I have what seems like cramps (short duration, sharp pains from down the tendon sometimes on the outside and more recently the inside part of the calf). It often feels like I am just restraining my calf, but there is no bruising, swelling, redness, or typical signs of injury aside from tenderness when pushing into the muscle. The whole muscle will tense up and any slight movement of the foot towards the body would cause pain.
These crampy/sharp-pained/re-straining episodes have probably happened around 10-12 times in the past month. I have been to physical therapy, massages, tried heat, ice, all the pain rubs and things just aren't getting better. (BTW, my nutrition is fine - not true leg cramps)
I am really looking for any advice from you guys as the running community is usually well educated calf injuries. I am basically at a point where I cannot flex the foot up, so normal walking is difficult and can sometimes cause these pain episodes. Very hard to function for daily life, things have been tough, may even have to delay my schooling.
Any advice?
