I just got diagnosed with a stress fracture in my 3rd metatarsal a few days ago. I'm a female, run distance and XC, and before anyone asks, I eat plenty and I'm not in the "female triad". I injured my foot outside of running. Anyway, I'm in a boot for a few weeks, but the last thing I want to do is lose all my fitness. I don't want to lose any, but obviously nothing replaces running. I'm out for the post season of track, and I'm not happy about that. I want the best chance to heal for summer training and of course XC.
For anyone else who had a metatarsal stress fracture, how soon after you got the boot did you start pool running? Can I start right away? I can ask my doc, but I thought I'd ask some runners too. Please no trolling, I really want to keep as much fitness as I can. Thanks.
