Illinois has a strong Distance and sprint team. They're basically the biggest team in the conference. I think Illinois has a high chance of winning like they did last year
Beat me to the punch.

For women maybe, but no chance for men. There are a lot more teams with 'complete' programs now like Wisco and PSU, unlike before, that should do a good job. Would be very interesting to see how the 5Ks pan out this year, with Rob out of the mix. Last year it ended up being a tactical 15 flat, hard to imagine it doesn't dip under this year with the distance depth we've seen in the 3K indoors for these guys.
Any half marathon guys out there?
Dan Wilcko (So.) and Katrina Helcoski (Sr.) are both looking to repeat as individual national champs.
Competition is always a crapshoot because of Boston being a week later.
This ginger freak Benzen from ISU will clean all ya'll.
Who do you all have for the 5k?
With UC Davis, Cal-Poly, Oregon all not coming as in years past, that takes out a lot of contenders, especially Kwanny Boy.
That leaves:
Bennedikt Bunz (2nd '16 5k)
Jason Thomas (7th '16 XC, 4th '17 Club Relays 3k 8:48)
Will Graham (3rd '17 Club Relays 3k 8:41)
Andrew Sell (5th '16 XC)
As as always there will probably be some NIRCA randos in the mix that come out of the wood works.
Also, Michigan has one or two guys (9th and 11th '17 XC) that might be a factor. Lucas Peterson (9th) has run 8:41 3k Indoors this year as well.

Heard he's shooting for a sub 18!
Georgia Southern's club had a team run a 41.35 4 x 100m this past weekend so other teams can forget about the sprints.
TrackBot! NIRCA Max Petrosky
I'm calling my shot right now. I will win the 1500 the rest of you hobby joggers can suck it

cool.
Looks like the two Iowa State guys listed here ran a road 5k this morning. Jason Thomas in 14:58 and Will Graham in 15:46. Interesting result given Graham beat Thomas by 7 seconds at the Club Relays
Thoughts on the steeple?
The Steeple should be a pretty solid battle between John Lacy and Connor Lee, who seem to be the highest returners from last year. Not sure who else will come out of the woodwork.
For the 5K, from what it looks like, the top returners from XC are:
Andrew Sell, PSU (5th)
Jason Thomas, ISU (7th)
Lucas Peterson, UM (9th)
Ross Pendergast, UM (11th)
Will Graham from ISU and Ryun Anderson from Maryland have posted solid times this season too. Should be a good race. My money is on Thomas or Anderson.
Watch out for newcomer from OSU Samuel Stevens-Jones. Owns a 15:14 PR on the track from his sophomore year. Ran for Ashland U, walked on to the varsity squad at OSU and got the boot after a season. Trained with the best of the best in Iten, Kenya over the summer. Kid has a massive chip on his shoulder, and probably the biggest dick in all of NIRCA.
Look for me to disqualify my entire team again!

Can confirm that he is the biggest dick in all of nirca. Chances he wins the 5k? Absolutely none. My money is on Big D!ck Nick Bandy fresh off a sub 26 8K with CRC elite at the Shamrock Shuffle.
Heat sheets are out:

NIRCA isn't releasing the exact seed times this year, but the heats are seeded slow to fast, with hip #1 being the fastest seed per heat and so on, except for the 100/100H/110H/200 in which the heats are random. They seem to check out to me, which is already more than I can say than last year's heats.
Schedule is also out here:
