I visited the track not long after the incident. There was an IM field between the track and the bridge with a fence that was 8 feet plus.
Where she jumped, unless she went head first ,
she was about ten times times more likely to seriously injure herself than die.
Unpopular opinion but I think that most XC/TF girls in NCAA that do well have boyfriends and a support group. I can understand if guys feel like this (myself included).

I was there at the meet and watching the event. I never noticed any athlete quitting the race. I read about it the next day. Very chilling to read about it.
