Named after Richard Henry Dana who wrote classic sailing memoir "Two Years Before the Mast" in 1840.
Several of the streets have names ending in Lantern. Golden Lantern, Blue Lantern, Violet Lantern, and such. The names are for the color of lanterns used to light the streets. When sailors came to visit the Dana Point Harbor they would head to the street with their favorite house of pleasure by following the lantern color where the house was.
