Well, Mo Farah would have beaten Andrew Butchart, furthermore, if anyone is engineering staging races then its British Athletics and it would not be beneficial to stop a Britain competing.

In addition Mo Farah has proven himself on every stage, even if they do make races easier, which they don't, it doesnt make him any slower.

Ok. Let's be clear. They definitely do make races easier. I mean that's a fact. I've got a source who says it's definitely happenedin the past as he or she was in a meeting when it was discussed years ago.

But lots of meets do that to some extent. I mean the New York City marathon doesn't have 15 Kenyans in it either. Makes it easier for Americans to crack the top 10 or 5.

But this is a freaking indoor race. Who cares if he loses? He's got 4 freaking gold medals so it's not like it really hurts his image. And if he lost to another Brit, it would be great for UK athletics.

I really hope there is another reason for his withdrawal.

The original post was posted as a question. Thus we were simply asking for a question that people were already asking all over twitter. I was definitely aware of the fact that there could be a family emergency. We will let you know if we hear anything official.

If Farah didn't have this reputation and if the Brits didn't do this regularly, no one would be wondering.

It does not make sense, Butchart is not a threat to Farah (unless he is totally out of shape) AND Albert Rop is at least as good as Butchart, so if they wanted to make it easier for Farah why not have Rop not run as well?

To imply they made Butchart get out of the race to accommodate Farah or to say Farah is ducking is silly, a runner has to be some what on the same level for someone to duck, example Coe vs Ovett ducked each other as both would have had a chance to beat the other, Butchart is a good up and coming runner, but he has no chance vs Farah, so no point to duck him, It would be like saying Centro ran the 2 mile last week instead of the 1 mile last week so he could duck/avoid Drew Hunter, Centro has no reason to duck Hunter as Hunter is a good young runner, but at this point in his career is no threat to Centro.

There's a good chance that Butchart would've beaten Mo. Butchart just ran 8:12.63 for 2mi at Millrose placinghird behind True and Hill. That's equal to roughly 7:36 for 3000m. The chances that Mo is in better shape than that aren't very high.

Let's hope we hear from Butchart again with a better excuse.

You're not going to get a Scottish guy to pull out of an event in order to help an English guy without there being a fallout.
