Since late November, I have built my weekly volume up to 10 hours a week (been holding that consistently for the last few weeks). I double 4-5 times a day (30 min morning runs) and do a weekend long run of 90-120 minutes. Additionally, I do two workouts per week which will constitute about 50-60 min (of hard running) of the total volume. 2-3 days a week, I will add a few strides.
I don't really plan specific runs, I just make sure my weekly training fits the rough template described above. For example, I always get my 30 min morning run in before work, but when I do a workout, I kind of make something up beforehand. I just ensure that I reach my total hard running time goal. Typically, I reserve one of the workouts to be some form of tempo (straight, repeat miles, fartlek) and I will vary the 2nd (hills, 400m-1k intervals, etc.)
Will maintaining this sort of plan progress my fitness (will be doing 5k/10k in the spring)? Should I put more thought into planning runs/workouts? What tweaks should be made?
