This reminds me of when they tore down Saddam Hussein's statue
Can't they leave monuments of these heroes alone?

But the KKK and the neo-Nazis were committing violent acts of terrorism long before Antifa ever existed.
Antifa = Anti-fascists = polar opposite of White Supremacy
If White Supremacy dies then Antifa will die. Very simple.

Those statues that were removed in Baltimore were put up in 1903. The governor of Maryland at the time was a democrat. Just sayin'
What difference does that make? You don't see statues of King George III, or Santa Anna, or Erwin Rommel around here.

But I'm not OK with your Taliban-style of cultural cleansing, where every set of elected officials attempts to rewrite history so that their predecessors vanish from the collective memory. What an outrageous way to govern a society! It shows a weakness of mind and an intolerance for differing ideas that set a dangerous precedent for other forms of censorship and intolerance in society.
So anyone who decides to remove a statue from a public square is practicing Taliban-style cleansing?
Our brave American soldiers who helped to tear down statues of Saddam Hussein were just like the Taliban?
The Germans who removed Nazi statues a generation after the war are also just like the Taliban?
We should not celebrate the bad guys of history by keeping confederate statues in public parks and squares. Instead, a historical statue should be put into its proper historic and artistic context. We should appreciate history and appreciate art. But we must not glorify evil.
I said this yesterday and will repeat again. The next time any hate group plans a protest and files the legal permits, etc. I expect the police to physically separate the opposing group(s) behind a barrier of some kind and to enforce the permits. This is where the cops, mayor, and governor failed to do in Charlottesville. I would not be surprised if the dead woman's family sues the city of Charlottesville.
I totally agree. Next time, I wouldn't be surprised to see heavily armed police outnumber the protesters by 2 to 1.
Truthfully if MLK started a war with the United States and started that war with the purpose of maintaining the evil practice of slavery than he should not have a statute honoring him.I would use the same criterion for Washington and jefferson. Let's just say anyone who attacks and was at war with the United States resulting in thousands of deaths should not have a statute erected in the United States honoring them. That is pretty obvious. President Trump doesn't get it.

By the way, the proper context for this kind of statue is typically a museum of history or art.
The Lee statue in particular is a fantastic example of equestrian statuary. It should be appreciated as such.
Gosh this country is getting more wigged out as time goes on. Still can't handle that Trump is President and the Left manufactures controversies. It was clear that the protesters had a permit, and those anti-protesters had their own agenda. Like that Google employee if you have a non-Liberal view of the world you become scorned regardless. Where is the free country anymore?

I don't disagree with your post. Even hate groups have a right to demonstrate without interference and police should be ready to defend their right. That's what being an American is all about. Many of the antiprotestors acted illegally. But there are many issues upon which to focus. Let's not ignore the huge issue of a large number of neo-nazis, KKK and white supremacists meeting to spread hate and evil. These warmongers were actually waving Nazis flags. This movement needs to be strongly condemned along with everything they stand for. Trump's words didn't convey this. His late begrudgingly given criticism was token.

You think you have some higher moral ground. You probably have never done anything in your life to better Blacks or other minorities. You have a guilt complex in your head.

explain why the white supremacist marchers were carrying guns and weapons, and why they had the right attacks people with those.

And today Trump disbanded the two councils. By the way, those councils never met.
Had there ever a president who has been wrong as much as trump.

You assume I'm a lily white Anglo Saxon. Nope, far from it. As stated long ago, I'm a latino/minority. (Go to the presidential candidate thread for the mentions). I don't advocate racism or violence from any group left or right. However, I see libs here ignore the violence that BLM or Antifa has done. When BLM kills cops, I see all the cop haters on LRC come out of the woodwork. When Antifa flips over cars, sets fires fires and breaks windows at Trump rallies, the libs pivot to another subject. You libs never own up to when your side does wrong. You end up blaming the blame on the conservative right, it never fails and your fake news media piles on.
The fact remains, liberal stupid exists.
No one said anything about your race, I could care less that you're a latino. Most latinos that I know voted for Trump anyhow. But you are not able to see that your hero is pandering to a side for support and votes. Again I don't think he's a racist, and yes you can not be racist and still cater to racists. If you cant understand that too bad.
Your hero, Barry pandered and catered to BLM. Btw, the correct term is couldn't care less.
