Serious question: can I get back into racing and beat my PR after 6 years away from running? I am 34 and I used to race competitively in the marathon. I ran OT Qualifier in 2008 and in 2010, for the 2012 Trials. I took more than 2 yrs off when I moved over seas for work. I am back in the US, and have relocated. I no longer have the ideal climate, terrain, and team that I trained with when I was successful. Now I am "training" on my own. Any time I feel like putting something on the calendar to get motivated, or even have a goal, I get discouraged b/c I am going to be so far off from what my times were 6 years ago. I've been running consistently for about a year w/o injuries. I've tried to do on-line plans/coach from afar, but hasn't really worked so well for me. I am more of a volume person; however, I had a pretty bad stress fracture (due to ramping up too quickly) last year that took me out for 4 months. Am I too old to try and train to beat my PR (which would be an OT Qualifier)again? And if not, how can I overcome my doubts and get motivated? Any insight would be much appreciated...
