Does it make sense to make all U.S. interstates toll roads?
Does it make sense to make all U.S. interstates toll roads?
Does it make sense for me to put forth a logical argument for or against your non-supposition?
Make all doorways toll doors, that way you can't leave a room without the government getting a piece of the action.
Yes. If Northern Indiana couldn't be a more miserable place to go, they have to charge an arm and a leg to get there from Chicago. Make it equitable.
Why not have a troll that just asks everyone three questions when they want to pass?
Yes, yes...the government must "take a cut". BTW, who pays for toll roads now?
Make the toll proportional to the wear put on the road by the vehicle being driven. These forces are proportional to the 4th power of the weight of the vehicle. A fully loaded big rig exerts places 96,000 times more wear and tear on the highways as a small passenger sedan.
That would get all of the interstate freight back onto the rails where it belongs.
Should the US ban all tolls on freeways?
Public Lexus Lanes and TOLL Roads should be banned.
No.
Most of us already pay for the use of interstates through taxes on gasoline. There only needs to be tolls on interstates for the electric cars.

So, not to put too fine a point on it, but, "the government" makes sure your door is a safe door and that buildings HAVE exit doors, and the building does not collapse, and the building has some fire safety features, and....
You pay some taxes every year in exchange for your safety and health. If those things are of no interest to you, Bangladesh is exactly where you should move. You'll love it there.

I already pay tolls on U.S. interstates, they're called taxes.
If you want us to pay each and every time we use them, you're basically saying "f*ck poor people". As cities get more expensive to live in, poor people are getting pushed out. They still have to drive in for the sh*tty jobs you don't want to do.

Except, the country's rail freight system hasn't kept up with demographic patterns, at all.
When the train drops freight off in Topeka, how does it get to Berryton without trucks?
You want to send produce on rails? A bunch of produce won't survive the trip.
No.
Well you could if you got rid of the gasoline tax. It would make the small highways that run parallel to the interstates in some places a nightmare though.
We need electrified roads and highways.

True. We could build more rail though. MAGA
The OP's idea isn't bad to throw out there for discussion.
But the result would be an undue burden on low income people.
People of means would gain yet another advantage with less crowded roads because only they could afford to drive whenever they want.
Right now in some places there are express toll lanes.
What they do is allow richer people to pay to drive around poorer people to get places faster while adding traffic to the poorer people.
Is it just me or does it seem interstate toll roads are usually in worse shape than non-toll roads? The PA turnpike comes to mind but I could be wrong.
