We have our end of the season dinner coming up sponsored and hosted by the parents of our varsity xc squad. This is a private school with nothing on the books about coaches consuming alcohol around athletes at social events. It happens in many other scenarios -- field trips, overseas trips etc--not to the point of intoxication, just your typical glass of wine or beer to unwind. Kids of course are not allowed to partcipate.
I run a tight clean ship. I don't tolerate bad language or anything that suggests disrespect or poor character. I understand coaches are always being watched as the role models they are and I think I'm a pretty good one.
There will be alcohol at this dinner and I'm torn over whether I'm going to drink or not. We had an incredible season and I feel like celebrating. It's the holidays after all. Yet.......
Where do other coaches come down on this?
