She has the potential to be ridiculously good. Anyone know why she isn't going to CU in the tradition of Coburn and Simpson, even as Cal is a better academic school?

When I first saw a 165 speed rating, I was a bit skeptical, then I realized what the old course record was. Anyone know Footlockers vs NXN?
Didn't they make changes to the course this year??? I know it is at the same location but I think it is different.
Took out big Willis ,little Willis is still there. Still tougher than most other states hills. About 35 seconds slower than a fast Colorado course. Which is about 30 seconds slower than low altitude.

This is exactly right.. Oakley's time yesterday is absolutely astounding!
Good to see others notice of this race. Only 2nd year of running?!
Hope Cal is a good choice, but you'd think with recent history CU, Arkansas, Oregon, Stanford, not to mention a half dozen other schools scattered around the US might be better choices.
This is the second year with the new course configuration, so yes it is faster than Rainsberger's course record from last year.
Oakley has only been running for about 14 months! Former soccer girl, of course.
Many here were surprised she chose Cal over CU, given that she's only run 2:18ish in the 800 and doesn't appear to have wheels, and Cal seems to be more speed oriented. CU seems like it would have been a perfect fit as she has a HUGE aerobic engine!!!
That being said, gotta give Cal credit as she did take a visit to CU and still chose Cal. Cal has been tremendous in recruiting lately as they have landed some of the top females in the country recently in Bethyn Knights, Jordyn Colter, Stephanie Jenks, and now Oakley.

Off the radar, she was missed by everybody, Cal will be the death of her opportunity to develop her talent.
Lets see what happens with her track season with this breakthrough.

She's from Grandview, which is close to Colorado Springs. She's probably a brainless religious person and can't even imagine the idea of running for an atheist like Wetmore. Even if it's not a religious thing, Colorado Springs parents are super conservative and generally don't allow their kids to go to the liberal hell-hole known as CU-Boulder.

Their recruiter must be doing something right. Probably doesn't hurt he is from Colorado & still well connected here. Grandview HS is in a suburb of Denver...closer to Boulder than the Springs BTW...
Wait - CU is too liberal so they let her go to Berkeley instead?

Maybe geographically closer to Boulder (not really sure, but it's close). But it's in Aurora, and the South Denver suburbs are definitely more conservative and evangelical, more linked culturally, to the Springs than Boulder is.

So she is conservative and evangelical? Sounds like Berkeley will be a great fit for her.

Grandview is near Denver. Do you even live in our state? Don't talk about what you don't know.

Grandview is an eternity away from Denver. It may as well be Witchita. I never understood why people would want to live in God-awful burbs. (Not that she has a choice in the matter, of course...)
Is why the top talent is going to Cal. Younger, qualified, relates well to the team. They love her. Was wise to finally make her the coach of the XC team. For the first season in a long time, someone hasn't gone down to injuries, and they seem to be slowly getting better as the Season goes on instead of peaking early.
Cal sucks! always has always will. Party in Berkeley over the men and women taking 6th at Pac 12. ( actually no one on campus knows what XC is ) and how many of those great recruits besides knights ran at confrence?
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
