My son is a freshman in high school and he is running cross country for the first time. He is actually doing pretty good at it and I think he is developing a love for the sport. Up until this experience with XC he had been planning to play LAX in the spring. It seems to me that if he wants to play LAX he needs to hit the weight room hard as soon as the XC season is over but wouldn't that be hurtful to his growth in XC?
The key is for him to do what he wants to do in sports...I don't think he is going to be a D1 college athlete. But, I think he can have some real success in XC if he does it right and he enjoys the success. In the other sports he has played....mainly basketball and LAX he has not been considered one of the better players. He is the guy who hustles and plays good D and gets the loose balls etc....rarely scores.
Just trying understand where XC fits in with other sports. Do you other HS runners play other sports?
