It seems that New York, New Jersey and Illinois have more than their share. Why?

I neither knew nor was aware that you and yourself work in the Department of Redundancy and Repetition Department.
Each politician is corrupt.
Combination of Democrats and the Mob.
On a per capita basis, Lil ole Rhode Island is up there.
Trump influence.
Used to be a sr level municipal manager in Ny. Lot of reasons, but legislative changes made under Pataki eventually led to the empowerment of a few. They were hopelessly corrupt, and that trickled through both state and local govt.
Not blaming Pataki here, and not as if things were perfect before, but fuel was added to the fire.
The honest folks left after getting a first hand look. Those that filled the void, especially younger folks, never saw honest govt, and eventually cronyism became the norm.
Hard thing to change. Preet is certainly trying, but it will take decades.
you should see Florida. At least NY has had an active prosecutor.
Obama took the in-the-gutter Chicago-style politics to the White House. It will be permanently stained by his antics. Don't forget Hillary was a Senator from New York. The guy who mentioned it being a combination of Democrats and the mob had it nailed. Illinois, Louisiana and New York are probably the most corrupt. Louisiana had enough money to fix the levees but the sleazy Dems in charge absconded with it all.
None of this has anything to do with Obama nor can be traced to Obama. Jeezus, give it a rest.

Economic reasons, that encourage it to begin and sustain it through maturity.
Corruption depends on and is rewarded by the availability and access to high quality goods and services and networks of people with know how, know whom, assets, good looks, etc. Metropolitan areas thus are key. Of course they don't call it the Windy City for the lakeshore, and everyone has some familiarity with New York's status and history attracting conspiracies and power brokerage.

You can cover your eyes and put your hands over your ears but the fact remains that Obama is probably the slimeiest politician to ever occupy the White House (besides Bill and Hillary Clinton - but that is another story). What he did was bring his gutter-style politics to the White House and in the process permanently stained it. A shame the guy was ever allowed to sully the place.
Two reasons: legislators passed laws that you can get a nice campaign contribution then deliver a nice perk in return to the contributor and, two, state legislature is nominally a part time job, so "make" huge salaries from corporations that then get huge state contracts. Only the federal prosecutors aren't beholden to the money folks.
Too many lawyers, bankers, MBAs...
Contrast that to the software devs on the West Coast who are too socially awkward to pull off corruption
And you can keep lying and running your highly selective sense of history past your face all you want. It doesn't make any of it true.
Waterbury and Bridgeport in Connecticut and Providence, Rhode Island are, pound for pound, possibly the three most corrupt cities in America.

Okay. It seems we both agree that he is a fraud but the degree is in dispute. You share my sentiment that he is a fraud but he has some redeeming qualities. I, on the other hand, think he is the biggest POS around. We can agree on the major points but disagree on the minor ones. There - we did it!
