Murphy runs last 100 in around 13 seconds. Other two runners fade.
No surprise he got bronze in the 800m later.

Really? An Olympic bronze was no surprise? C'mon, man.
1:54 PR in 2014. 1:42 in 2016. Is white. No talk of doping because he's white.
That's why we have USADA. People don't think he's dirty because he isn't in a system that is going to be beating the testing
Clayton Murphy is going to be one of America's mile stars beginning next year. No doubt about it.
But don't forget about Colby Alexander. Just one year out of college and he had a breakthrough year in 2016.
According to T&F News he ran the # 3 1500 in the US for 2016 at 3:34.8, trailing only Centro at 3:34.0 and Ben Blankenship at 3:34.2. At 5th Ave he ran Centro to the line and made the 2 NOP guys break 3:50 to beat him.
He beat Ben B. twice in two high profile races. Tracktown Summer Series 3:34 to 3:35 and the 5th Ave mile, 3:50 to 3:53. He beat Andrews in both of those races as well. 3:34 and 3:50...the kid can flat out fly.
Other than Centro, he has beaten every national caliber miler in the country at least once and most more than once.
IMO Centro, Alexander and Murphy will be our top 1500/mile athletes for the next few years. No disrespect to the other up and comers: Isaic Yorks, Craig Engels and established studs Kyle Merber, Johnny Gregorek and Olympians Ben and Robby but the upside for both Murphy and Colby is just too obvious to ignore.

IDK...could've been a lot of things. He looked like a seasoned vet thru the first two heats. Didn't run bad in the final. Beat half the field but didn't have his usual fast last lap.
He's supposedly a low mileage guy so maybe by the third heat he was zapped. But what we've seen since is that in one race for all the marbles, he can run with anyone.

You mean he improved dramatically from when he was a senior in high school to now when he is a senior in college??? Wow bro, you might be on to something here.
This is either kyle merber or colby himself....
Yeah. Right. Kyle Merber or Alexander wrote it. That kind of stuff gets old. This is a popular comment on LetsRun when someone writes more than a sentence in promotion of an athlete. I guess you're ok with a sentence or two but do not elaborate. You are then pegged as the parent or the subject.
LetsRun rule #1
To be safe, you may want to avoid praise when posting. If praise is required, keep it brief. Two sentences at most.
LetsRun rule #2
You are much better off with a negative comment. You may then feel free to elaborate. Especially if subject is NOP, Rupp or Salazar. Misery loves company. You will receive a lot of support regarding negative comments.
Lastly why would Kyle Merber write a post that expresses the opinion that it will be others who are the future of USA miling?
Also according to LetsRun posters, since Colby graduated from Oregon and not Stanford or an Ivy League institution, he probably doesn't know how to write yet so it probably wasn't him either.
Which leads us to Clayton or Centro. Must be them. Has to be.

He's not a doper. Don't fall for these junior high posters. He's a big talent that clicks with his coach. Never really focused on his running before college. Now he's running to his true potential. Great story.

Before I get slammed, I meant posting, not poshting.
Murphy actually ran the last 100m in closer to 12 seconds. He is going to rival Alexander and Centrowitz in the next few years.
Also, don't forget Drew Hunter.

PSA:
https://www.tfrrs.org/athletes/4512808/Akron/Clayton_Murphy.htmlMurphy had a 1:50.03 PR in 2014. He ran 3:44.53 that year. His progression is not unheard of. He ran 4:02 flat indoors as a freshman!! He was part of a 3:11.72 ndoor 4x4! The kid was a huge talent, and progressed normally until a breakout season when he was focused on Summer races with he fastest competitors in the world. He's fast-we should be celebrating it. I'd like to think I wouldn't feel any differently if he was Kenyan or otherwise.
Alexander is fast but Murphy is faster. C'mon.. Clayton can run 1:42. Alexander maybe 1:45 or so but that's a huge difference. And what is Centro's 800? Around 1:44? Big difference. I say it'll be Centro then Murphy then Alexander next year. Clayton has the wheels in the end to out kick Centro. It actually may be Murphy then Centro then Alexander.

Stop and think before you post... Centro will most likely be looking to run 3:27-3:29 next year, and repeating as world no.1... his PR is 6 seconds faster than murphy. IF they are both at the US championships AND it goes out very very very slow AND Centro leaves it to the last 200m then maybe. If Centro goes from anywhere from the start line to 400 to go there is no chance.

Everyone has a right to their opinion but Benjamin's makes a good point. Additionally, Murphy still has a LOT to prove yet in a 1500/mile. Doesn't even have an A standard to his name yet. Yeah he has speed and he can kick. But Centro has proven he can out kick anyone. He proved it against the world's best at the Games. He's also run 3:50 on the track and 3:49 on the road.
Murphy has a ton of talent and for that matter so does Alexander. IMO Alexander has as bright of a future at 1500 as Murphy, but for now and the foreseeable future, they both have a lot more to prove to be able to be compared to our Olympic Champ. ( It was, however, exciting to see Alexander lock horns with Centro at 5th Ave. Balled it).
