I have been consistently our number three man on my high school xc team. We had a race the other day in which I dropped out in. I had a respitory problem which led to me to wheezing and collapsing, I literally could not have finished. This has happened before and I've been able to return to normal running in a day or day two. I was on pace for about a 16:30 when I dropped out at 2 miles. My coach decided to put me on jv simply because I did not finish. Our next best is about 40 seconds behind me (16:24). I have consistently proven myself worthy of varsity running for the past two years with no problems and now because of one bad race I have been demoted to a jv runner. I understand where my coach is coming from in the sense that a varsity spot is conditional. But I feel as if I have earned my right and one bad race (not even an important one) should not be an automatic demotion. Thoughts?
