So why didn't Ethiopia choose Kejelcha for their 5k team exactly?

It made little sense at the time. They have this sort of continuing set of trials rather than a legitimate national trials race so you don't really know what you have to do. He was obviously the best young runner they had. 7:28 is quick in any conditions. and here it was supposed to be hot.
I'm pretty sure he'd beat Edris in a few races this year as well I was surprised he wasn't on the team, I thought maybe he was injured or something but obviously he wasn't, this was probably the fastest 3k in 6-7 years.
7:27 in 2011 was the last time a runner dipped under 7:30.
Something fishy that Kejelcha was left off the team. He is probably
in great shape without post-Rio fatigue. Expect some fast times, 12:50.
Yeah I went back in looked 2nd fastest time since like way back when Bekele did a 7:27
Doesn't make much sense at all
Kejelcha won't be "tested" after this run. He would've been in rio.
is he on the sauce/juice?
Why did the US leave Hill off their team?
not 1-2-3 at the trials, I assume
Because he wasn't top three at the trials
the kid ran 7'28.19
brief look at vid shows
2'25+ !!
last 1k
&
56.7 !!
last lap
very unambitious but perhaps worried about ~ 100F track-side heat
iguana's 2k split of 4'59 was ~ same as kid's proportioned 2k one so 4'59 shouda been no problem for kid
on cool day with ambitious pacing, kid couda gone
~ 7'25
i reckon his current 1500 shape woud be not far off mo, going with 3'30/3'31
this ->
7'25 / 3'30 ->
12'52.37
7'25 / 3'31 ->
12'49.92
so, around 12'50
this is really rubbish considering same venue 4y ago had 6 guys 12'46 - 12'49 & gebrepesky won with intrinsic 53+ last lap !!!
pacing that day was still poor in 4th km but better than utter crap we have seen in years before/after
5k has collapsed last 4y, but can't claim drugs as 1500 has had superb times & M off the scale !!!
it's paucity of fields, too much talent going to roads & not in best shape when coming back to track
even mo went to roads but has best coach in Sal & got back more of his speed to run track than others
don't be impressed with 7'28, even if intrinsic 7'25
4y ago, the paris guys were in
7'17 - 7'23
for top 6 with gebrepesky in 7'17 shape
he really has collapsed since losing 5k final in past 4y albeit ran semi-quick 10k off presumably only 5k training
this win 4y ago,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAEtHwH-Phc
IMO, he was in
~
49.25 / 1'44.75 ->
3'27.03 !!
4'42.53
7'17.51 !!!
12'37.96 !!
neophyte here provides some somewhat outrageous figures, way outside gold-standard above, but at least he tries to get in ballpark, so try his
http://timescalculator.appspot.com/
for say 3'27/3'28 ( looked quick as mo ) with 12'35 - 12'40 off 12'46 off some poor 4th km with incredible intrinsic 53+ accounting for running wide in both bends
No one in the Paris field could have run under 7:20 that day in 2012
Alamirew's max potential that day was about 12:44/7:24 mid. Same for koech.
Gebrhiwet: 12:42/ 7:23 high
Gebremeskel: 12:41/7:23 low with a possibility of something like 7:22.9x
And as of Kejelcha? You're right about how he's in 12:50 shape, but there's no way he can run 7:25 at the moment. Something like 7:26 high/7:27 low is definitely in the cards.

Hhmmmmmm .... I doubt either of the Geb's were in 7:23 shape. That's faster than Bekele ever ran and he was a 12:37 guy. Hicham ran 7:23 but he was a (far) stronger miler than either of the Geb's will ever be.
The idea of 7:17 shape for any of those people is Ventolin's (wet) pipedream.
no
you need to think harder
no
it is not worth bothering with individual answers
it is ridiculous to assume any times are set in stone & must be "slowed" because some runt ran fast decade+ ago
that runt got hammered ~ few years ago at short distance on road, but the boy's whupper didn't repeat on track
go look up Yator in holland over ~ 4 miles crushing kenster
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WX0ABv5XhMIclose / at ~ 12'50
is this a joke ??
he jogs to 2k then destroys leader for win in brutal heat ?!
70F & paced smoothly thru in 4'56 he was
7'25+
no
3k times are a joke
i'm not even asking you to look at iaaf tables, but impress me, what does iaaf have for 12'50 for 3k ??
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
