I saw a workout Wednesday with 3x400 with 4 min breaks. I am trying to learn more about what goes into a training schedule and I was curious to what systems this works.

The system it works is predicated on the percentage of one's 400 speed or race pace.

It's just a race pace workout that Symmonds and Loxsom were doing to simulate what an 800m will feel like, with an added 400m rep to target anaerobic endurance.
