7 weeks until the marathon and my training has gone less than stellar due to other obligations and laziness. I’m definitely not in shape at all, but at this point would still like to shoot for 7:00 flat pace ~3:03 finishing time. Would have liked to go well under sub 3 but I don’t think that’s realistic at this point.
I’ve ran pretty much on and off 20-35 mile weeks the past 6 months. No workouts, just aerobic runs, generally 5-7 miles at 7:05-7:30 pace. A month ago in mid July I ran a 84:30 half (~6:28 pace). Definitely could not have gone double the distance though.
I ran a 32:30 10K nearly 2 years ago when I was competitive, but since then the last 1.5 years has really been half assed. I was hitting 80 miles a week back when I was competitive, went 15:45 for 5K too. My longest run ever is only 15 miles from a year ago so I really don’t know how to handle building up to a marathon with such short time. Definitely plan to get back into serious mode this Fall, but I know I should’ve started earlier for this marathon. Just looking for opinions on how I can best salvage this race.
Hope this is enough info and I know I don’t deserve to run a good time based on this lack of training, but I’d just like to hear if anyone has any thoughts on how best to crash train for this so I can complete the 26.2 and still run as decent as possible. I don’t know if I should just run very long and slow starting tomorrow, or should I just pick up the pace of normal runs. I don’t know what to shoot for with weekly mileage build up with only 7 weeks..definitely don’t wanna get injured by jumping up to 15 mile long runs immediately, but is that what I need to do at this point?
Thanks
