I ran a 10K road race once in New Mexico. Elevations on the course ranged from 8,500 to 9,200 ft. The race started with a downhill portion on a highway for about 1/4 mile before going in a forest on trails and old 2-rut roads. I'd never gotten out of breath running downhill at any speed before, but in this race I did. I wanted to quit after that 1/4 mile. Somehow I kept going and finished well.
The key with altitude is do not go out too fast. Going out too fast will just kill you way more than it would in a sea level race
May God be with you my friend
I reckon it will wreck you.
