Which time is better?
800: 1:55
1600: 4:20
3200: 9:30
Which time is better?
800: 1:55
1600: 4:20
3200: 9:30
1:55.5
To be more exact
According to McMillen Running calculator, the 1:55 is slightly better than the 4:20 and a lot better than the 9:30.
Yeah but I don't trust that because I don't think 1:55 is as good as 9:00, which is what mcmillan says
That McMillan calculator is way skewed towards slow-twitch athletes imo. The longer distance times it gives are almost always faster than the shorter ones.

My goodness I agree so much! my entire team skews fast twitch. Maybe McMillan is made for adult runners or people who focus on 10k and up. But it's really not very accurate for high schoolers.
That mile time is pretty dang good I would go with that. I made the mistake to go with my two mile and I was running 9:29 and my mile time was 4:23 the second meet and the state winning time was 4:13 so every time I look back at it I regret it but now I am sticking with the 3200 this whole year and next year as well.
In the exact order you listed them.
A 1:55 is about the same respectively as a 4:17 1600 and 9:15 3200
Likewise, a 9:30 3200 is like a 4:26 1600 or 1:59 800.

Yup. Also, to those complaining about the McMillan calculator, it's a distance runners calculator! It's not like the performance tables. This means it's going to give you performances that are possible if you are fully developed aerobically, which high school kids are not. I'll be the first to tell you, I have never run 1:55 for 800 but I have run 8:54 3200.
In ranking those times with other high school runners it is the order you listed them.
2015 outdoor track:
1:55.5 =458 in the nation
4:20 = 568 in the nation
9:30 = 700 in the nation
Where does a 9:26 3k steeple fit in?
How about a 14:44 5k?
That steeple didn't seem quite as good
