Is there any signs that should tell if one held back too much energy for the final kick in a 5k?

That's a easy one Chuck, if you don't WIN you held to much back.
After a 10K I would think you would automatically know the answer to that question. Perhaps you need to run a few more if you don't!

Chuck Norris does not hold back on 5ks. 5ks hold back on him.
Or something like that.

If you're not dry heaving after crossing the finish line.
If you are not toe tagged at the end of a 5k, you held back too much.a
If your pace feels comfortably hard coming down the final 400, not 100% spent and exhausted. If your breathing is still nicely even not ragged at mile 2. If your legs don't feel sore the next day. If you're not dry heaving by the end. If you don't have to fight a mental battle to continue from mile 1 onwards. If you don't PR (on a good PR course obv)
Was curious, I had dead legs from the start, then dealt with the worst side stitches I've had all year and was able to still sprint my last 400. I did get a pr, but I felt I was in better shape for a better pr that day. I guess it was just not the optimal day for me. Thanks guys
If you watch didn't ask you to update your MAX HR after the race.
