Hey shoe prices... Can you maybe chill...?

I was just talking about this today and saying that there is a market opening for a good shoe at a reasonable price. It would crush.

Back in the day, when shoes were only $50 - 75, we "knew" that the complete shoe, in box, and shipped to the USA, was around $2.50 per pair. Yep, the rest was American mark up. Two dollars and fifty cents turned into 50 bucks just like that. I'm very shocked that as you say, shoes today cost 1/3 of what we are seeing at the retail price. I would be more inclined to think that a $150 pair of shoes would cost perhaps 10 - 15 dollars (maybe) to manufacture.

Stop overpaying for shoes. The reason why they are selling shoes for $200 is there are a lot of people who will pay that much.

What I really don't like is the ultra light flats like the saucony endorphin that are going to rip or wear out in under 100 miles. I can use them for workouts and a race or two for like a month, if that. Still cost over $100. It seems like 120-130 is the new norm for anything right now and they'll prob go up more eventually, because what are you going to do, not run? Run in walmart shoes? Best bet is to buy discontinued models on sale.

Why wait for sales? Online shops like Running Warehouse ALWAYS have plenty of last year's models on sale pretty much year round.

I currently run in the Brooks Launch 2 and New Balance Zante and haven't paid more than $60 for a pair of shoes in over a year. I've stocked up a couple pair of cheap Launch 2s for when the Launch 3 is discounted.

That's what I don't understand. People could save a bunch of money buying $50 shoes. I never spend more than $49.99 on a pair and they work just as good as a $150 pair. As a bonus, they last just as long also!

I stalk Running Warehouse for sales and rarely pay more than $65 for my Nike Flyknits, which retail here at $120+ tax. On pair number six now.

I paid $38 for some NB Fresh Foam Zantes and $31 for the Fresh Foam 980 Trails in the NB outlet store a couple weeks ago. My GF got some Adidas Kanadia TR7s for $40 at the Adidas outlet a couple days ago. My favorites cost a bit more: Hoka Challenger ATRs (first version... my 4th pair) for $65 at REI. All these are last year's shoes except the Kanadias, which is a current model, but not a hyped up one.
