Abdalelah Haroun broke the 500m world best running 59.83 today.
However, Roddie Haley ran 59.82 at the 1986 NCAA Meet on a ten lap to the mile track. Unbelievable. Speed endurance has the story:

The track at NCAAs in 1986 was off the ground and dind't have a rail (not sure hot is feasible at track in the air could have a rail unless there was some extra space) so it wasn't eligible or a world best. Anyone know anything about the 1986 meet.
Can some track stats guy tell us why a track off the ground needs to have a rail. If you try and cut the distance you fall of the track.
