Anyone have any (non doping) theories about whats going on with Mary Cain???

She doesn't look that different. If your argument is that she would be better if she lost weight, she probably only weighs 8-10 pounds more than she did in her "prime" she could lose that in a couple of months, but I don't think that alone would get her back down to low 4 territory. If I were her I'd try taking a part time course load, if she isn't already doing that.

It\'s probably both. She put on a bit of weight because she\'s neglecting the workouts and has other stuff to do, most likely academic stuff, and Alberto is not around breathing down her neck making sure she does every workout to intensity.

But in the race tonight she doesn\'t look bigger than usual.

the difference is that she is being put on the biggest stage.

Al Sal and Nike wouldn't put her on the big stage if all she could run was 4:20 for 1500

I have little doubt that Mary Cain is running very solid workouts...so Al Sal puts her in good races...and then she freaks out and can barely run.

I just banned the person who said he was 'almost certain' Cain was on drugs.

We believe in free speech but I looked up their posts and they were all along the lines of, "person a, b, c is on drugs." His or her other posts from today were saying as Hunter also is on drugs. Just saying "everyone is on drugs, person xx, yy, etc isn't constructive." Give an intellectual reason as to why you think ti's the case or be quiet.

At what point does she panic and change distances?!

Something more. We are talking about a 19 year old girl. She can make many different things, try different approaches to life and running and still become one of the best in the world.

Being histrionic about few races or months of sub par performances says a lot about the people that post about her.

Life has many turns... If you, for some reason hate her, I understand why you write here. If you are trying to help, say it is ok, it will get better.

I would have to imagine she though she was in better than 4:20 shape (i.e. would she really fly to germany if that was the case) so either she is delusional or something like jet lag/getting sick happened. It is a little early to panic over 1 race. After the next one we can:)

Without knowing her training, weight changes, ..., there isn't much to say. There is a long line of people who have of races/years. Does Maton running a 4:17 miles (i.e. about as much off his PR as Cain's) mean he is finished? Probably not.

AlSaL screwing around with her form, trying to take away the lateral arm swing, seemed to just make her tighter and awkward.

Problem is it wasn't one race. It followed up the 9:23.

Whether panic or not is the question, it's clear that something is not right although I agree it's hard to imagine that she went over there without the expectation of a much better race.
