This study found that runners who lifted with lower body exercises and then ran at high intensity 6 hours later had impaired running ability.
Well, duh. But isn't this study looking at the wrong thing and possibly coming up with the wrong conclusion?
Granted, performance six hours later will be impaired, but the effort is still there for the running workout. Has anyone seen a study that looks at the longer term effect of this type of training?
In my opinion, the primary importance is the training effect. Is lifting followed in less than 6 hours by a hard running workout better or worse than not lifting at all? My premise would be that lifting and then running would increase performance provided that there was a peaking period of 2-3 weeks where lifting would be eliminated or greatly reduced prior to a peak race.
