Well, here's where I'm at; I'm a Junior in HS, w/ a solid gratitude for the sport of distance running, I'm in love w/ it to say the least. I've been training seriously since XC of 8th grade (11:27 PR for 2 miles that season), and have seriously developed a love for the sport. I'm fortunate enough to have a good coach for cross country, but he does have a kid so he isn't coaching track, and I wouldn't want him to just give me workouts to do, b/c my "coaches" would talk to him personally about it.
Alright, so you're probably wondering why I want a coach for the coming track season if I have "coaches" already; Here's the mud I'm in:
-My coaches don't have a single clue what they're doing
-They tried to have me run 2 mile runs every day last year (I refused, and did what I wanted, but it was difficult as there was an argument every day between the 3 of us.)
-They don't give us distance workouts (They try to make us do 100s, or 200s every day, which I refused to do as well.)
-They did give us a decent workout once or twice, in which they didn't even give us splits, or even watch (They chatted w/ the sprinters and worked with the athletes that did field events.)
-Neither of them has any back ground in running (One was a high jumper, the other was a thrower.)
-They try to put me in 3-4 events every meet, which I also refused to do as I wanted to run the 3200 and 1600. (They tried to put me in the 4 x 8, 800, 3200, and 1600.)
__________________________________________________________
-I have a few other runners on my team that are pretty talented and would beat me in an 800 if they're in decent shape (Senior who ran 2:04 and 51.7 as a sophomore, Senior who ran 2:10 as a Freshman and a 54 as a Junior, and a Freshman who ran 2:06 and 54 as an 8th grader.)
-I know with the right training I could drop a 2:04-2:07.
-I'm not the quickest guy on the track, but I am a solid 800 runner when I put in the speed work (2:19 in 8th grade, when I was 95 lbs and 5'1.)
-Our school record for the 4 x 8 is 8:26, and state qualifying time is 8:32. We plan on breaking the school record, and qualifying for state.
So, that's the predicament I'm in, and I know that if I tell them I'm following a legitimate training program that there is nothing they will do but have me explain it (I made them look really dumb last year by pointing out all of the flaws in their "training plan" so after a while they just let me do what I wanted to do, which was legitimate training.)
Here are my PR's from last track season: 2:16 (71, then 65. I was capable of at least a 2:11-12.), 4:56, 10:37, 37:47 for 10k (Road race after the season was over.)
In XC this year I ran around 55-60 MPW over the summer, and then ran around 52-56 MPW during the season. My PR's during XC were: 10:32 for 2 miles on a slow course, and 16:14 for 3 miles.
So basically what I'm asking for is a coach that is pretty knowledgable with some solid experience that doesn't cost a billion dollars. I'm willing to pay for a coach to work with me (I have a job.), but I don't want to be paying an absurd amount. I don't just want him to train me during track, but I'd love for him to help with my mileage buildup from January to March as I prepare for the season.
If any coaches are out there and willing to help me, just either reply to this or shoot me an email -
Thanks for your time.
