Happy Berlin Marathon morning, masters. good week of training for me with 80 miles incl.
23 w/ 10 at marathon pace Tues. (67:00 -- intended 66:40, slowed some in middle on a hilly segment)
10 with track 8k at half-marathon pace Friday (30:15, about 20 sec fast based on recent actual half-marathon pace)
Friday was tough getting started after staying up late to watch Washington lose badly to NY Giants Thurs. night.
I was interested in this piece [there's also a separate thread on it on this msg. board] about ostensibly reduced competition in 60+ AG. Starting as a sub-master in late 30s, I always thought the pack would thin out at older divisions (yeah, i'm not the best now, but if I just hang in there and avoid slowing down, I'll be the man in M 70-74!). Can only speak for DC area, but so far (54), no such luck on either count (thinning herd, no slowing down). There are plenty still at it in my group, and new ones moving in all the time.
Really wouldn't have it any other way -- I'm competitive, but I don't want to win by attrition. We make each other better by continuing to train and race.
